CrossFit is many things… Primarily, it’s a fitness regimen developed by Coach Greg Glassman over several decades. He was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way (increased work capacity, across broad time and modal domains). CrossFit itself is defined as that which optimizes fitness (constantly varied, functional movements, performed at relatively high intensity). CrossFit is also the community that spontaneously arises when people do these workouts together. In fact, the communal aspect of CrossFit is a key component of why it’s so effective. CrossFit means the world to me! It has opened my eyes to the world of the unknown as far as being able to push myself to the limit mentally and physically. It has been an outlet for reducing stress and has helped me keep the competitive passion that burns deep down inside my soul. It unites people of all different walks of life and builds a community and camaraderie unlike any other sport. We compete together, we win together! As a coach, it makes me respect form and technique over intensity more than ever. CF challenges me to be more than just a coach that yells and cheers on their athletes. It challenges me to not only understand human movement but posses the ability to know each athletes goals, desires, weaknesses, strengths and why it is that they chose CrossFit to help guide them in their journey for greatness.
